Easter Weekend

Lovely Easter flowers given to me by my mum and dad...

A cup of tea and a chocolate crispy nest cake made by Miss M and my nieces...

A tray of very fresh eggs bought from the local farm shop...

Four of those same eggs dipped in food colouring to make pretty pastel coloured eggs for rolling. We took them to the beach and rolled them at the top of the hill...

A special Easter breakfast for Miss M...

Easter treats for Miss M...

Chicken pie for tea...

With hot cross bun bread and butter pudding for afters...

What a busy weekend! Our little Easter party on Friday went well and luckily the weather held out and we were able to have the egg hunt in the garden. Miss M also took part in a bunny hunt at a local garden centre yesterday, which she enjoyed very much! A lovely weekend and now it's time to unwind with some cross stitch, then an early night as its back to work tomorrow for me... Happy Easter to everyone, hope you have had a lovely weekend whatever you were doing. Many thanks as ever for the lovely comments on my last post. Back soon...

Appliqué picture

I bought a couple of embroidery hoops in John Lewis last week as I had seen some little appliqué pictures framed in them and wanted to make one of my own. Ever since I got Cath Kidston's book Make!, a few years ago, I have been very keen on appliqué and actually quite a few things around our house have been given the appliqué treatment! Here is my latest little make...

I used a piece of linen from the back of an old cushion cover and some of the new pretty green fabric I got a few weeks ago at the Creative Stitches & Hobbycrafts show, then finished it off with a wee red heart button. It was such a nice little project to work on these past few evenings and I like how it looks nice and welcoming hanging up in our porch.

Thank you for all the lovely comments on my last few posts - I really do appreciate them. Hope everyone has a lovely Good Friday!

Easter Preparations

Over the past week or so, we have been making some little Easter preparations...

Bunnies and chicks have made an appearance...

Chocolate eggs have been bought and one or two have made an appearance in Miss M's packed lunch this week, much to her delight...

Easter Hama bead fun...

Easter colouring...

A couple of little bunnies, made from a fleece scarf bought in Poundland! Miss M has enjoyed playing with these very much. Pattern and tutorial can be found here.

We have also been making plans for a little Easter party for Miss M and 5 of her friends on Friday - we are planning to do some Easter crafts and have an egg hunt in the garden (weather permitting!). She is very very excited about this!

I also have a couple of new little crafty projects on the go but time spent on these will be a little limited with the school Easter holidays over the next few weeks, although I'm sure I will be able to slot in some crafty time somewhere!

Six Good Things

1. New yarn! More Stylecraft Special DK in pretty pinks and purples to make another granny blanket, this time for Miss M.

2. A sweet little campunula plant in a little pink tin jug, given to me as a gift from my mum and dad. Love this, it's so pretty I can't stop looking at it.

3. More lovely flowers. Given to me by my friend yesterday when she came over for lunch.

4. Making progress with my cross stitch. This is for my gran's birthday next month so I need to keep working on it so I can get it to the framers and get it back in time for her birthday. I find that crochet keeps distracting me from other crafts at the moment...! I enjoyed cross stitching away last night whilst I watched The Time Travellers's Wife on television. I was a bit disappointed in the film though, I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the book which is one of my absolute favourites.

5. Milk and white chocolate muffins. Baked on Friday and enjoyed over the weekend.

6. Yummy chocolate eggs, the ones above are my favourites...

Thank you to my lovely readers and followers for stopping by my little space here and for all your lovely comments :) Back soon with some Easter type goings on....

Little Cardigan Makeover

Firstly, I would just like to say thank you so much for the lovely comments about my granny blanket, honestly thank you, it means a lot.

So, I seem to own quite a number of cardigans and actually wear one most days. This little cardigan I bought a couple of months ago, but I really wasn't feeling the love for it. I like the colour and it goes with a lot of things but truthfully, I find it a little boring...

Yesterday, I decided to start giving it a little makeover.

The buttons were changed from these...

To these...

A little vintage style brooch was made...

And here is the end result! I think it looks much better! A very simple little makeover that took less than a couple of hours, but I'm happy with it. Sometimes it really is the little things which make all the difference...

Happy weekend everyone.

Finished granny blanket

At the weekend I finished the crochet granny blanket I was making. I loved making this. I loved the colours and I found it so relaxing working round after round. I honestly didn't want it to end, as I had so much enjoyment just from working on it each day. When I was sewing the ends in at the weekend, I was a little worried it may have been too small but anyway it is now all finished and blocked and I think the size is just right. I am really pretty pleased with it...

I felt the blanket needed a border so I worked a round of double crochet in each colour and then made a pretty picot edging. I used the pattern for the edging of the Flower Cot Blanket in this gorgeous book.

Here is a little note of the yarn I used:

  • Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK 4 x 100g in Cream (shade 812)
  • Stylecraft Special DK 1 x 100g in Apricot (shade 1026)
  • Stylecraft Special DK 1 x 100g in Clematis (shade 1390)
  • Stylecraft Special DK 1 x 100g in Lemon (shade 1020)
  • Stylecraft Special DK 1 x 100g in Sherbet (shade 1034)
  • Stylecraft Special DK 1 x 100g in Fondant (shade 1241)
  • Stylecraft Special DK 1 x 100g in Spring Green (shade 1316)

I am so so happy with my new blanket! I just need to get the cushion finished to match now! Miss M has now requested a blanket for her bed and I am more than happy to oblige... I feel a little yarn purchase may be made very soon!

Weekend Snippits

Miss M and I treating ourselves to breakfast in bed (mine!) and a leisurely read of our favourite magazines...

Little Easter cards Miss M has been busy making for her friends...

A cupcake beautifully decorated by Miss M (not that I'm biased or anything) at a birthday party she was at yesterday...

Enjoying the warmth of the wood burner last night. It has been so cold, wet and miserable here these last couple of days...

Sewing in the ends of my crochet granny blanket. It is now blocking and I cannot wait to put it on our bed and properly appreciate it...

Another weekend over! Hope everyone has had a good one. Hello to my new readers and followers, thank you so much for visiting...
